Issue 899 – Feed Me – November 2, 2022

I took this morning’s photo a couple of years ago at our old home in Clearwater. The sunflower is a volunteer from a seed that managed to escape being eaten at one of the bird feeders.
The sunflower was a beautiful extra flower in the yard and went full circle to be the feeder. The chickadees and other small birds immensely enjoyed the treat.
Every living thing needs nourishment. That need is one of the criteria that separates the living from the non-living.
People need nourishment for their physical bodies, but we also need to nourish our emotional and spiritual side as well. The world is full of people who have not been appropriately fed physically, spiritually or emotionally.
Jesus physically fed 5,000 men (plus women and children) on one occasion, but they could not see beyond the food.
When they found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, “Rabbi, when did you come here?” Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.” Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.” John 6:25-28
Jesus offered them all they needed.
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. John 6:35-39
The crowd was not interested in what Jesus offered outside physical food.
So the Jews grumbled about him, because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” They said, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does he now say, ‘I have come down from heaven’? John 6:41-42
They would not believe the evidence in front of their own eyes. The crowd wanted a temporary fix rather than eternal fulfillment.
How often do we turn down what we really need and satisfy ourselves with junk food? Likely more often than we care to admit.
Invest some time today in the bread of life. Feed your spirit and be enriched by it.
Be blessed
Hallelu Yah / Praise God
