Issue 1437 – Wolves – May 2, 2024

I have always had a soft spot for wolves. I have been blessed to see many packs and solo individuals in the wild. Today’s image is a track I saw a few years ago beside my size 10 EEE boot. It was a fair-sized track but far from the largest I have seen.
There is something about the howl of a wolf that gives me goosebumps, particularly when camping out alone and they are singing from all around. It’s a much more eerie sound than a pack of coyotes.
They are apex predators at the top of the food chain. They do what wolves were designed to do: keep the population of other animals in check. That often brings them into conflict with farmers and ranchers because wolves don’t view horses, sheep, and cattle as different from deer.
They are skilled and intelligent tacticians when it comes to hunting. A wolf in search of prey is dangerous.
The Bible uses the imagery of wolves for those who would destroy the church. It is sometimes used to describe a false teacher.
Jesus warned of them,
He who is a hired hand, and not a shepherd, who is not the owner of the sheep, sees the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. John 10:12
The Apostle Paul said,
I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them. Acts 20:29-30
Paul was correct. I have met many wolves in the church seeking to lure away other sheep for their own purposes. They are masters of deception and of twisting the word of God. Like wolves in the wild, they prey on the weak and the vulnerable.
How can we protect against wolves?
We need to know what the Bible says and means. That comes from studying the Word for ourselves and sitting under good preaching and teaching. We need to discern truth from error.
We must be diligent in our study and sensitive to the whisperings of the Holy Spirit.
May the Lord keep you safe from the attacks and ravages of spiritual wolves.
Be blessed

Gleanings From The Word
Experience an extraordinary God in ordinary life.
Soli Deo Gloria (For the glory of God alone)
Never let the enemy tell you that you are worthless or insignificant. Your value in God’s eyes is so great that it was worth dying for. You are a blessing to the world. You are so precious to God that his plan for heaven will not be complete without you.
