Issue 1478 – Summer Arrives – June 20, 2024
Today marks the Summer Solstice, the earliest solstice in over 200 years. The sun will heat its peak in the official northern hemisphere at 4:51 p.m. EDT. From that point, the days will begin to be progressively shorter until we hit the winter solstice at 4:20 a.m. EDT when the days will start to lengthen.
The days and years slip by at a constant rate: seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years, decades, and centuries roll by. Sometimes, we feel that time has slowed or sped up, but its fundamental nature doesn’t change.
The material universe consists of time, space and matter. The Bible teaches that God created them all ex nihilo (out of nothing).
The LORD created it and controls it. God created the laws of physics that keep everything operating as it should. Our earth revolves in a precise orbit around our sun, giving us days, nights, and seasons.
He promises us that “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.” (Genesis 8:22)
His “fingerprints” can be found on everything around us. We cannot help but see His handiwork on everything, even things such as the ticking of a clock or the passing of day into night or Spring into Summer.
Without the Lord, there is nothing. Every breath we take is a miracle and a gift from Him. Every second of our lives is permitted by Him and foreknown to Him.
Nothing escapes His ever-vigilante eye. He sees our struggles and our victories, mourning and celebrating with us. He knows our hurts and offers us comfort. He knows our needs better than we know them ourselves.
We can trust Him. He loves us unconditionally and wants the best for us. He is faithful in all that He does and truthful in all He says. That can only be said of the God of the Bible. No one else can truthfully make that claim.
As we celebrate the transition to summer, let us remember that“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lamentation 3:22-23)
Be blessed
