Issue 1515 – Sing – August 3, 2024
Yesterday, I had a song stuck in my head after writing about Song Sparrows. Sing-a-Song had become an earworm.
Sing was written in 1971by written by Joe Raposo for the children’s television show Sesame Street as its signature song. According to Wikipedia, “In 1973, it gained popularity when performed by the Carpenters, a number 3 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. Raposo was a staff songwriter for Sesame Street, and the song became one of the most popular on the program, sung in English, Spanish and sign language. In its initial appearance, it was sung by the show’s adult human cast members and the Muppets, including Big Bird.”
It’s a fun, catchy little tune. One particular line in the lyrics kept sticking in my head. “Don’t worry if it’s not good enough for anyone else to hear. Just sing, sing a song.”
I often meet Christians who don’t sing during worship services. Or if they do, they sing so quietly that even the person next to them cannot hear.
We must remember that when we sing praise songs or hymns, we are not singing for people. We are singing praises of our God to our God.
Admittedly, relatively few of us sing well enough to be on stage leading worship, but we can still sing.
My darling wife feels she doesn’t have much of a singing voice. Yet few things give me greater pleasure than hearing her sing when she is in another room. It isn’t because she is in the other room; it is because I hear her joy when she sings.
It is the same when a parent hears their children sing. We attend a school performance, and usually, especially in the lower grades, the music is less than top-notch. Yet, we love to hear them sing and watch them perform.
How much more so must it be for Our Heavenly Father to hear us sing His praises?
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations. Psalm 100
He loves us, and He loves our joyful noises.
So, when we gather together, let’s sing a song. Sing out loud, sing out strong. Don’t worry that it’s not good enough for anyone else to hear. Just sing. Sing a song.
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Be blessed
Hallelu Yah / Praise God

Soli Deo Gloria (For the glory of God alone)
Never let the enemy tell you that you are worthless or insignificant. Your value in God’s eyes is so great that it was worth dying for. You are a blessing to the world. You are so precious to God that his plan for heaven will not be complete without you.
