Psalm 23 KJV
Psalm 23, KJV

On the wall in my office hangs an exact facsimile copy of Psalm 23 in the original King James. It is in the old style of English, which many people have difficulty reading today.

The KJV isn’t my favourite translation, although it is good. My page copy is a delightful piece of bible history.

When I stop and think of the providence of God in giving people the Word and preserving it through the ages, I am humbled. The Bible has survived numerous concerted efforts to eradicate it. Countless men and women have given their lives to keep it, translate it into a language people can read and distribute it.

Much of the world hates God and dismisses the Scriptures. I remain convicted that the Scriptures are God’s inspired, inerrant and holy word to people of all ages.

I believe the Bible when it says, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”

2 Timothy 3:16-17

For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. 2 Peter 1:21

I am glad to have a copy of God’s Word of my own. That was something not possible for most of Christian history. I have it in numerous translations, paper and electronic, and with/without a wide range of study notes and interpretive helps.

While the Bible should not be worshipped, it does contain the Words to tell us who God is, who we are, how to be reconciled to Christ and how to live as believers. It should be on the daily reading list of every believer.

Satan recognizes the power of God’s Word and does everything in his power to keep us from listening to it.

When the enemy approached Eve in the Garden of Eden, he didn’t encourage her to lie or otherwise disobey God. He got her to question the validity of God’s Word.

Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made.

He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.'” But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths. Genesis 3:1-7

That tactic worked so well that he continues to use it with great success.

Don’t fall for that line. There is much that God has to say to us, and we need to hear it.

Yes, God said.

Read the Word. Read the Word. Read the Word.

Be blessed

Hallelu Yah / Praise God
