Gleanings From The Word – experience an extraordinary God in ordinary life

Forty-five years ago today, I stood at the altar in a chapel on CFB Kingston with my back to the door. After what seemed an eternity of waiting, Padre Cope told me I could turn, and there at the head of the aisle was the most beautiful woman I have ever seen.
Kathy’s father walked her down the aisle, but I have to admit that I really didn’t even see him. My eyes were on my bride-to-be.
The sight burned itself into my memory. I have forgotten many things, but not how my heart raced, and my breathing stopped. Nothing quite prepares you for that moment.
It has been 45 years of good times and bad, ups and downs. I wouldn’t trade a moment of it for anything. God blessed us by bringing us together and keeping us together. Many scoffers said we wouldn’t make a year, but we have surpassed that time frame many times over by His grace.
I knew I wanted to marry this woman and spend the rest of my life with her. I really didn’t understand what that meant. At age 19, I still had much to learn about life, although I was convinced then I had the answers to everything. I couldn’t wait to be married to this love of my life.
There is a marriage that I am looking forward to even more. There shall come a moment when we, the church, the bride of Christ, finally meet Him face to face. As much as Kathy’s image on that day is burned into my memory forever, I cannot even imagine how much more incredible that will be.
The song says, “What a day that will be when my Jesus I shall see.” When I look upon the face of the one who saves me by His grace. When He takes me by the hand and leads me to the promised land, what a day, glorious day that shall be.”
Then comes the marriage supper. John writes,
Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns.Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure”— for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints. And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.” And he said to me, “These are the true words of God.” Revelation 19:6-9
Saints from all the ages gathered with people of every tribe and tongue and nation, all worshipping the Lord together. I get God bumps just thinking about it.
Blessed indeed will be those who have accepted the invitation of the Lord. Forever free of the presence, practice and penalty of sin. Free at last from the bondage of our sinful flesh. Born again, with glorified, resurrected bodies, celebrating the Lord forever.
I can’t even really picture it, but I can hardly wait.
Until next time, rejoice in the Lord and all the promises He will fulfill in you.
Hallelu Yah (Praise God)
Be blessed.
Kevin.
