Issue 878 – Feast or Famine – October 10, 2022

Happy Thanksgiving to you (early for our friends south of the border). Regardless of when it is celebrated, Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on our blessings with gratitude.
Many homes will celebrate with turkey or ham (or both) this weekend. Family and friends will gather together. For some families, the thought of a turkey or ham dinner is just wishful thinking.
I don’t know if you are in a feast time in life or a time of famine, but I do know believers are called to gratitude.
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Thanksgiving in all circumstances. That seems counterintuitive in some ways. It is easy to be thankful when everything is going our way but isn’t being grateful in hard times simply pretending?
Not at all. Even when times are hard, we have things to be grateful for. Consider these words…
Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever! 1 Chronicles 16:34
I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus. that in every way you were enriched in him in all speech and all knowledge— even as the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you— so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. 1 Corinthians 1:4-9
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
The Lord is my strength and my shield: in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him. Psalm 28:7
I am sure you can think of many more biblical reasons to rejoice and be thankful, whatever your circumstances.
May God richly bless you and yours as you celebrate.
Be blessed
Hallelu Yah / Praise God
Kevin
