Issue 900 – Inspired – November 2, 2022

This morning we have a simple scene — a view along the shore at White Rock. There is nothing extraordinary about it; you could see something similar most days of the year or along many beaches worldwide.
Yet, views like this make me pause to think. I consider my place in the world, the beauty and wonder of God our creator and more. In short, they can inspire me.
Inspiration is a concept we are familiar with. Many things can inspire us. One dictionary defines inspiration as “the action or power of moving the intellect or emotions.” Inspiration can happen through music, emotions, art or any one of a thousand different ways. For me, it often comes from simple things in nature.
People say that God’s Word is inspired. Does that mean it has the power to move our intellect or emotions? Yes, it means that, but that isn’t the primary meaning of the inspiration of Scripture.
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17
God breathes out every word of Scripture. The same creative power that spoke the universe into existence spoke the Words of Scripture.
Humans wrote scriptures for sure; they are the instrument God chose. Yet, Holy Spirit worked through them to ensure that every thought, indeed every word, was what God wanted to convey to us through the authors. Many places in Scripture make the extraordinary claim that God said, which ought to give us pause.
Nothing in the Scriptures is there in error. God breathed every Word into the minds and pens of the authors He chose. Every word is protected from corruption.
God the Father desired us to have His Word. Holy Spirit inspired the authors, and Jesus authenticated it.
The Word does more than motivate us. It has the power to change lives for eternity.
For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed what he has heard from us?” So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. Romans 10:10-17
Scripture is God-breathed and without error. Scriptures have the power to change lives. Our God speaks.
If the Scriptures are merely inspirational in the same sense that a good work of art or a walk along the beach is, we don’t need to pay attention to them.
If they truly are inspired by God’s breath, we need to become intimately familiar with them. They are the Words of life.
Since our Heavenly Father has inspired the Scriptures as His primary way of teaching us, that makes them the single most important thing we can ever read.
Take time daily to read the Word.
Be blessed
