Gleanings From the Word – Experience an extraordinary God in ordinary life

It is issue 666, and I was tempted to write about eschatology (study of end times). In the end, I decided not to for two reasons.
Firstly there is good manuscript evidence that the number of the beast should be 616, not 666. Secondly, many people are eschto-maniacs so wrapped up in end times speculation that they can’t focus on anything else. They are convinced that they can figure out the day and hour of Christ’s return. Lastly, and most importantly, I felt more called to write on a different topic.
This morning’s photo of a butterfly was taken by my long-term friend Ronnie “Papa” Warren. We have been friends for a couple of decades, going back to the early days of Gleanings. We never met in person, and I learned that Ronnie went home to be with the Lord a couple of days ago.
Although we never met in person, we often corresponded back and forth electronically. We are brothers in Christ, which makes him and I family, the sort of family that endures for eternity.
The butterfly picture is one of many that he permitted me to post in Gleanings. It seemed apt to use it today.
The butterfly started life as an egg then became a caterpillar. At some point, it entered a cocoon and emerged in all its beauty. I doubt that this butterfly had any concept of how beautiful it would become.
As I write this, Ronnie is with the Lord. He is fully glorified and has become all the Lord intended for him to become. I suspect that he is more beautiful than anything he ever imagined. I know that he is rejoicing in the presence of His precious Lord and Saviour.
As believers, we are destined for greater things than we can imagine. The Lord has great things for us to see and to become.
Now we see but a dim reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 1 Corinthians 13:12
But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself. Philippians 3:20-21
Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. 1 John 3:2
Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven. 1 Corinthians 15:49
When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Colossians 3:4
We will see the Lord in His unfettered glory. I cannot imagine how beautiful He will be. We will see one another glorified through eyes and minds no longer tainted by sin—what a marvellous vision.
We will be perfected and glorified. I cannot begin to imagine what that looks and feels like. My imagination staggers to think of that moment when all is revealed.
As believers and by God’s divine and perfect will, my friends, we are destined for greater things. Not because of who we are, but despite that and because God has decided that the elect should include us.
Take some time and give Him all the glory today.
Hallelu Yah (Praise God)
Be blessed.
