Issue 977 – Seasons – February 7, 2023
The natural world comes equipped with winter, summer, spring and autumn seasons. If you live in Northern Canada, it might be winter, false spring, more winter, short spring, mosquito weather, near winter and winter.
Every season has its purpose in God’s grand design for creation.
Similarly, every person’s life comes in seasons. Another life season is drawing near a close; our Ontario time has only a couple of days left. As I write this, Kris and Amanda are winging their way home from Portugal.
It will be time to wake the grandkids for school in a few minutes, and not long after that, walk them there. In about 5 hours, I will be off to the airport to pick up the arriving travellers.
It’s been great to spend time with four of our six grandchildren (our other two live in the same house we do). We have been a part of their daily lives for a couple of weeks. Times on the toboggan hill were a blast. I was reminded that I was never a good bowler and hadn’t improved. Just being together has been a blessing from God.
A season might be as short as a few days, or it may last decades. This has been a short but good one.
There are what we typically think of as seasons, such as infant, toddler, child, teen, young adult, older adult, senior and very senior. For some, it might be single, married and divorced or widowed. It might be a season of school and career and then retirement.
We could have a season of poverty followed by plenty. It might be waves of sickness and health. For some, it can be measured by housing, parent’s home, apartment, home, retirement home and long-term care.
For teachers, it can be teaching, Christmas break, teaching, Spring break, teaching, summer and repeat. Military personnel might measure by time at home and time in the field.
Our wedding vows included, in sickness and in health, for richer and poorer, better and worse. Kathy and I will have been married 46 years later this month, and we have had seasons of all of them.
I don’t know what season you are in or what season you move into next. I know that whatever you face (or will face) is in the hands of a loving, omnipotent God. He knows everything that we will encounter and walks with us.
The God who blessed you in the good times is the same God who carries you through tough times. The God of the mountains truly is still God in the valleys.
Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever. Give thanks to the God of gods, for his steadfast love endures forever. Give thanks to the Lord of lords, for his steadfast love endures forever; Psalm 136:1-3
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations. Psalm 100
In every season, we can rejoice in the Lord. Our circumstances may be easy or hard, but He remains good, and His love will never fail us.
The steadfast love of the Lord is forever. Praise God.
Be Blessed
Hallelu Yah / Praise God
