Emergency Room Stop – March 11, 2023

There will be a few day break in upcoming issues of Gleanings. Midnight Friday found Kathy and me at the Abbotsford Hospital Emergency Ward. I had lost part of the peripheral vision in my right eye (subsequently, it deteriorated to losing more than 90% of all my right eye vision).
After a long stay in the hospital waiting room, I finally saw a doctor. I was diagnosed with several idiopathic (cause unknown) retinal tears and a retinal detachment in my right eye. Kudos to the staff at the ER, it was a busy Friday night, but they were pleasant and professional.
From the ER room, it was off to the specialist in a nearby community for more detailed options and prognosis.
My choices were clear: surgery or permanently losing sight in my right eye. The surgery has a high probability of success in restoring most of the vision in that eye, although it may take up to a year and some repeat surgeries to complete.
I’m scheduled for surgery Monday morning and trusting God to walk closely with me, whatever the outcome. In the interim, I will limit my screen time and probably need a few days of rest afterwards.
Gleanings will return sometime next week, and the frequency will depend on my eye’s progress.
Be blessed.
