Issue 1,006 – Mystery – March 17, 2023
Yesterday, Kathy and I walked the Stainton Trail in Abbotsford for the first time. It is relatively short (about 1.5 km return) with a fair bit of elevation change. The trail roughly parallels a portion of Clayburn Creek, although you can’t directly access the creek from the path.
Hidden in some trees is the wreck of an old car. It was overgrown and well hidden, so I didn’t see it until I was almost past.
I couldn’t get a clearer shot because of the location. The wreck has been there for a long time, but it is a mystery how it ended there. The trail is wide enough that it could have been a one-lane road at some point, perhaps for a local farm. Maybe that’s where the car died and why it was abandoned. I can only speculate.
Life is full of mysteries and stories. Some are merely items of curiosity, while others are profoundly important questions like “Why does something exist and not nothing?” Why do some people accept Jesus and not others? Why does one person live while another dies? Why is pizza round but cut into triangles and packaged in square boxes?
The Bible repeatedly speaks of a great mystery.
And when he was alone, those around him with the twelve asked him about the parables. And he said to them, “To you has been given the secret of the kingdom of God, but for those outside everything is in parables…” Mark 4:10-11
Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages but has now been disclosed and through the prophetic writings has been made known to all nations, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith— to the only wise God be glory forevermore through Jesus Christ! Amen. Romans 16:25-27
Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church, of which I became a minister according to the stewardship from God that was given to me for you, to make the word of God fully known, the mystery hidden for ages and generations but now revealed to his saints. To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. Colossians 1:24-27
One of the great mysteries is, “what must I do to enter the kingdom of God?”
God has revealed His plan of salvation to humanity in progressive revelation in the Bible and through the incarnation of Jesus the Christ.
Those who are His will be with Him in glory forever. Salvation is attained by faith by grace alone. Jesus is the Promised One to come to be the sacrificial Lamb who atones for the sins of the World. He is the one who dwells in the chosen of God.
Paul tells the church in Collosae that we can be assured of an “understanding and the knowledge of God’s mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” Colossians 2:2b-3
We don’t understand it all now, but the fullness will be revealed in time. The great mystery will be unveiled and the cause for even greater rejoicing.
We can celebrate God and rejoice for what has already been revealed, knowing that more celebration and rejoicing will come.
Be Blessed
Hallelu Yah / Praise God
