Issue 1,008 – Do you Know? – March 20, 2023

The God of the Bible, the one true God, is a revelatory God. He wants us to know Him.
Repeatedly throughout the Scriptures, we see statements like, “And they shall know that I am the Lord their God with them, and that they, the house of Israel, are my people, declares the Lord God.” Ezekiel 34:30
Sometimes it is in the context of a blessing from the Lord. At other times it is the wrath and judgement of God upon Israel and the nations. The point is always the same. God wants people to know Him.
God walked in the Garden with Adam and Eve. He has revealed Himself through His Word, both Old and New Testaments. He revealed Himself through His prophets and through miracles, signs and wonders.
The Lord still reveals Himself through the transformed lives of His followers.
God has appeared to many in dreams and visions.
In perhaps the most significant revelation, God revealed Himself through the incarnation of Jesus the Christ. Fully, God, He came into the world through the womb of a young Middle Eastern peasant virgin to walk among His creation, to suffer and die for our redemption.
God isn’t like the Wizard of Oz, hidden behind some curtain, manipulating things but afraid to show His face. He continuously calls out to people to find Him.
Even His creation calls out His praises and makes it impossible for us not to know He is there. It takes an act of rebellious will not to see and acknowledge God.
Now, it is true we cannot know the Lord God fully. He is infinite, and we are finite beings created in His image. Yet, we can understand what He has revealed and keep learning more.
When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.1 Corinthians 13:11-13
The time will come when even the hardest of hearts will acknowledge Him. It will be too late for their salvation, but they will admit He has been revealed.
It is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” Romans 14:11
Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11
When I stop and think of it, I am astounded that the Lord would care if His creation knew Him. I can relate to the words of the Psalmist.
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Psalm 8:3-4
Job wondered the same thing and cries out.
What is man, that you make so much of him, and that you set your heart on him, visit him every morning and test him every moment? Job 7:17-18
Yet, the Scriptures are clear, God loves us and wants us to know Him.
God’s undeniable revelation of Himself to us is a magnificent gift. Praise His name and give Him thanks.
Be Blessed
