Issue #1165 – Supernatural Power – May 31, 2023

We have all seen the marketing mascot, the pink rabbit beating his drum and heard the slogan, “It keeps going and going and going” It has become a cliche. The term Energizer Bunny has come to be applied to many things that endure.
The Energizer Bunny first appeared in 1988 and has been through several makeovers since then, but it keeps going in advertisements. You may not know that it is not the only battery bunny. The Energizer version is a parody of the earlier Duracell Drumming Rabbit that first appeared in 1973, beating on a drum.
The inference, of course, behind the competing battery ads is that theirs is the best. If we buy their particular brand, our battery-powered device will run longer.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if our lives ran that way? Change the battery, and we just keep going and going and …
Perhaps you have watched a group of children hard at play. They seem to have incredible energy. The kids zip around full tilt effortlessly and seemingly endlessly.
Wouldn’t it be nice if we could bottle that energy and sell it for adults to use?
How much would you pay for a supercharged battery that kept empowering you? Or a bottle of “kid’s brand” energy?
We have access to a better kind of empowerment that is free for the asking.
Let’s start by looking at an obscure verse from the Old Testament.
But the Spirit of the Lord clothed Gideon, and he sounded the trumpet, and the Abiezrites were called out to follow him. Judges 6:34
Blowing a trumpet is a simple act that Gideon had probably blown many times before. There was nothing extraordinary about the trumpet itself. The story is about what God did through that act.
God calls us to do ordinary things in life in an extraordinary way, powered by Holy Spirit. Blowing a trumpet, smiling, performing a simple kindness, or putting someone else first are all more simply done with the Spirit. When we trust Him to lead and empower, we can access a power source more remarkable than all the battery brands and bunnies combined.
The ad should be a person in ordinary life, wearing a label that says “Spirit-filled Christian,” the announcer can say, “They just keep serving and serving and….”
In the words of the late Dr. A.B. Smith, “Dear friends, the instant we let the Holy Ghost saturate the soul, the Lord Jesus Christ brings all His infinite sources of power and love into it. One touch of God will do all that our tugging and struggle could not do.”
We will still physically tire and need rest, but the Spirit will empower us in ways we never dreamed of. Until next time may you be filled with the Spirit and trust His guidance.
Be Blessed
Hallelu Yah / Praise God
