Issue 1126 – accusing – June 26, 2023

Cold black clouds blotted out the sun. The rain continued for days without relief. At times it came down in sheets; other times, it was just as steady drizzle, but it rained and rained and rained.
The longer it rained, the more people’s stress levels went up, and the shorter their tempers became. Their spirits sunk lower with each raindrop, and the forecast showed no relief in sight,
It was as if someone had dropped a heavy, wet woollen blanket over the entire community. People were weighed down by it and couldn’t seem to get out from under the weight.
That’s the same feeling people can have about their sin. They feel weighed down, burdened and oppressed. The heavy blanket of accusation pressed onto them, and they could not escape it, even in their sleep.
The problem is magnified by the fact that we know we are guilty. We are not being falsely accused; we have sinned.
There is a difference between conviction and condemnation. When we feel condemned for the sins we have already given over to the Lord, that is often Satan charging us. There is a reason he is called the accuser.
Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him. And the LORD said to Satan, “The LORD rebuke you, O Satan! The LORD who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is not this a brand plucked from the fire?” Zechariah 31:1-2
And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. Revelation 12:10
Until the second coming, Satan will accuse us before God and remind us constantly of our mistakes and rebellion. He is continuously condemning us,
Conviction is different than condemnation because it offers a way out. We know we have sinned and can take it before God for forgiveness and healing.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
The Word tells us we are forgiven.
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:1-2
When you stumble, may you fall under conviction, not condemnation and know the difference. May you walk in the freedom Christ grants us by His grace.
Be Blessed
