Issue 1194 – Muttering July 7, 2023

I found myself muttering and complaining. The work was supposed to be a team effort. Yet, the team leader was seldom, if ever present, uninspiring and seemed totally disinterested.
Repeated requests for information and team get-togethers were put off with some excuse or another and never seemed to happen.
It was a big event, and the various team members were trying their best to coordinate things between themselves. Still, the lack of information and leadership was beginning to show. It’s hard to plan when you’re unsure of your role or the big picture.
My thoughts took a decided turn for the unkind. Maybe the team leader is incompetent. He just doesn’t care. What’s his problem anyway. He seems to hate the job; perhaps he will quit.
Come on, Lord, just fix him. Move him out of the way. Doesn’t he care about the event or your plans? Doesn’t he understand? What’s his problem anyway?
There were reasons I was frustrated, but rather than examine my heart and part, I focused all my energy on the team leader.
A bible verse came to mind. It was slightly out of context, but it stung nonetheless.
Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand. Romans 14:4
Then I remembered more of the passage, not word for word but close enough to convict me.
Why, then, do you judge your brother? Or why do you belittle your brother? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. It is written: “As surely as I live says the Lord, every knee will bow before Me; every tongue will confess to God.” So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God. Romans 14:10-11
Ouch, ouch and ouch. I had some serious repenting to do. I was glad for God’s seemingly infinite patience with me.
It always feels like a mixed blessing when the LORD corrects us. The discipline is painful, but the resultant change is always worthwhile.
My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline or be weary of his reproof, for the Lord reproves him whom he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights. Proverbs 3:11-12
In both the world of the church and the world outside the church walls, we will encounter people who don’t do things the way we would. It’s a fact of life, and we will not change it.
We can control and change our attitude, though.
Is your team leader making you nuts? Pray for them and pray for wisdom for yourself. Is your pastor not up to speed? Pray for Him. Is your coworker in the ministry not meeting expectations? Pray for them.
We are called to pray for one another and to carry each other’s burdens. Is there something we can do to help that individual?
Just mumbling and complaining is never going to fix the situation. I know that, but sometimes I can slip into that habit. When I do, I thank the Lord for reminding me that He is in control of it all, not me.
Is there someone who you find yourself mumbling about? Repent of that sin and pray for the Lord’s hand on your heart and the situation.
Until next time, thank the Lord and praise Him for His patience with us.
Be Blessed
Hallelu Yah / Praise God
