Issue 1205 – Time – July 27, 2023
Yesterday, we took the whole clan to the Otter Co-op Water Park in Aldergrove. There was plenty for the kids to do, with waterslides, a wave pool, a diving board, a “lazy river” to float down and more. The atmosphere was carnival-like, and the pack packed out to capacity.
Counting Kathy and I, there were 14 of us. Kris and Amanda had their four children, Kyle and Amy, their two and Christina (Amanda’s sister) and her son.
We took possession of a large grassy area for the pile of blankets, bags, towels, lawn chairs and other paraphernalia for taking a large group on such an outing. The kids, and most of the adults, took in every pool and water attraction. I sat out because I had gotten one of my knees banged up playing basketball with the kids earlier in the day. Even then, I had a great time watching people enjoying themselves. It was an excellent spot to people-watch and to see the grandkids’ excitement on their frequent trips back to home base. All too soon, our time at the park was over, and it was get everyone out, changed, pack up and leave.
Today’s picture was taken at a much smaller park in Clearwater about 5 years ago. It’s incredible how much all of the grandchildren have grown since then. They grow up so fast. It’s hard to believe. We don’t have the blessing of seeing the four from Ontario often, so we notice those changes the most.
I remember being that age and wondering what life would bring and what I would do when “I grew up.” I’m 65 now and have seen and done much. I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up.
I know that I want to be pleasing to the Lord for the rest of my years. I know that I will mess up, but I also know the joy of Jesus’ mercy and forgiveness.
Even more than that, though, I want my grandchildren and the generations that will follow to know the Lord from an early age, serve Him faithfully, and glorify Him in whatever profession or vocation they choose. I frequently pray for my sons, their wives, the grandchildren and their prospective spouse and their children down the line until Jesus returns. I pray they have godly spouses and be bold ambassadors for Christ.
I still have years left to run on the clock before I go home to glory (unless the Lord has decided otherwise), and I want to finish well.
Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate. Psalm 127:3-5
I want to be faithful with the heritage the Lord has given me.
Not everyone has the blessing of children. Some people remain children, some are unable for physical reasons, and others have had children but lost them.
Still, most of us have children associated with our lives. They may be the children of neighbours or workmates or perhaps our nieces and nephews. We can keep our prayers focused on them and their offspring to come.
Pray that they come to know Him and serve Him well. Pray that they marry godly spouses if marriage is in God’s plan for them. Pray for their children down the line until Christ comes back. Your prayers can impact untold numbers of people.
There is no time like today to start. May the Lord use your prayers and faithfulness to impact generations for His glory.
