Issue 104 – Roller Coaster – August 4, 2023

Rollercoasters come in many shapes and sizes, but they are all designed to thrill and entertain the rider. The rollercoaster traces its history back to the 16th or 17th century Russia with sleds running on rails down hills in the winter. They have come a long way since.
The rollercoaster with the highest vertical drop at 418 feet is the KingdaKa at the Six Flags Amusement Park. The Formula Rossa – presently being built in Abu Dhabi – will exceed that with a drop of 525 feet.
The fastest coaster in the world is Falcon’s Flight which hits a top speed of 240 KPH. That’s moving.
While I have been on a few rollercoaster rides, I’m not a huge fan.
I have been spending my time in the Word of late with a book that could be called a rollercoaster – Isaiah.
Inspired by the Lord, Isaiah takes the people of the day (and, by extension, us) on an unbelievable ride. Some chapters clearly outline the rank nature of the sin of God’s people and her neighbours. There are stark warnings to turn from their wickedness or face eternal consequences.
Those who turn to Christ still face correction and discipline but will find comfort and eternal hope in Him.
There are harsh warnings about disobedience and the glorious promise of the messiah to come.
The people are warned that they are entering a period of significant trial, which some will not return from, but also promises the hope of glory for those who endure.
The words of Isaiah can cause the heart to shudder in fear and trepidation, but it also can bring about moments of hope and rejoicing hope. God’s holiness, as is His love and mercy, is revealed in great detail.
In the same book, we find
Woe to those who draw iniquity with cords of falsehood, who draw sin as with cart ropes, who say: “Let him be quick, let him speed his work that we may see it; let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw near, and let it come, that we may know it” Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and shrewd in their own sight! Woe to those who are heroes at drinking wine, and valiant men in mixing strong drink, who acquit the guilty for a bribe, and deprive the innocent of his right Therefore, as the tongue of fire devours the stubble, and as dry grass sinks down in the flam so their root will be as rottenness, and their blossom go up like for they have rejected the law of the Lord of hosts, and have despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against his people, and he stretched out his hand against them and struck them, and the mountains quaked; and their corpses were as refuse in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger has not turned away, and his hand is stretched out still. Isaiah 5:18-25
And…
There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots shall bear fruit. And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. And his delight shall be in the fear of the Lord. He shall not judge by what his eyes see, or decide disputes by what his ears hear, but with righteousness, he shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; and he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked. Righteousness shall be the belt of his waist, and faithfulness the belt of his loins. The wolf shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the lion and the fattened calf together; and a little child shall lead them. Isaiah 11:1-5
Isiah will take you on an emotional rollercoaster. Still, he will leave you understanding the greatness of God and the promises He has for His people.
Set some time aside and read the book of Isaiah carefully. Prepare to be amazed by what God has revealed.
Be Blessed
Hallelu Yah / Praise God
