Issue 1222 – Sunrise Sunset – August 15, 2023

At a quick glance, unless you know where the photo was taken, you might see either a sunrise or a sunset. A longer look might tell you that it is a sunset. It is a matter of study and perspective,
Our perspective and how we view the world makes a great deal of difference in how we live our lives. The Christian worldview is often significantly at odds with the prevailing culture.
The wisdom and advice of the world are different from what the Bible teaches, often in dramatic ways.
The world tells us that the way to happiness is to “Follow Your Heart.” That seems to make sense; after all, surely your heart knows what will bring you joy.
The biblical worldview is the polar opposite.
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? Jeremiah 17:9
Our hearts are twisted and marred by our sinful nature. While they may sometimes get things right, they cannot be trusted. “follow your Heart” is often a pathway that leads to destruction.
The world teaches us that the pathway to success is to “Look Out For Number One” and “The One With The Most Toys Wins.”
Once again, the biblical truth flies in the face of convention.
“…seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33
Jesus answered, “The most important is, Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:29-31
The world teaches us that we are fully independent. The Bible shows that we are interdependent on one another and entirely dependent on God.
The world teaches that happiness is the utmost reason for existing. The Bible teaches that God is more concerned with our holiness than our short-term happiness.
The is no denying the appeal of listening to the world’s advice and perspective. It seems easier in many ways.
His path leads to everlasting life, the other past to destruction. The Bible makes an unambiguous statement about the paths.
“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. Matthew 7:13-14
God has given us a blueprint for this life and the future. Where it conflicts with worldly “wisdom,” we need to trust God’s Word every time.
Hold fast to Jesus and trust His Word.
Be Blessed
