Issue 1252 – Just Like Us – Names and Titles 3 – September 18, 2023

Here I am, aged somewhere between one and two years old. I might be slightly biased, but I was a cute kid. Look at that sweet smile and curly hair; how could anyone not love me? Somewhere in my office, in my baby book, I still have a lock of that blonde hair. I’m not so small, cute or young anymore. I’m north of sixty, and my hair is now gray, but that is part of life.
Other than Adam and Eve, whom God supernaturally created, every human being has come into this world as a baby through a mother’s womb. It’s one of the things that makes us human.
Even Jesus the Christ had to come through the womb of a mother. That is so obvious as to be a no-brainer. Of course, how else could He pay for our sins?. It is also mind-blowingly hard to comprehend. How and why would God do that?
Jesus is Immanuel, God with us.
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Isaiah 7:14
All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel (which means, God with us). Matthew 1:22-23
Jesus is the “seed of the Woman.” In the Garden of Eden, When Adam and Eve were cast out, and Satan told his coming demise, the coming of Christ was foretold.
“I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.” Genesis 3:15
In the original Hebrew of here, the woman’s offspring is referred to by the singular noun seed. That seed is immediately antecedent to the singular pronouns he and his. So, the seed of the woman is individualized. There is one Seed in particular who was to come.
Our Lord is the “Son of Man.” This is the title Jesus used most often for himself in the New Testament, appearing more than 80 times in the New Testament. It is a term used generically to refer to humanity and specifically to refer to Jesus.
…whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. Matthew 12:32
I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man also will acknowledge before the angels of God, but the one who denies me before men will be denied before the angels of God. Luke 12:8-9
[And Jesus] said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man. John 1:51
Jesus chose to step into this temporal life and become human. He did not give up His divine nature. He was entirely God and fully human. Unlike the claim of some cults, Jesus was not a man who became a god. He was God who was incarnate (took on flesh).
From his days in the womb until his death, Jesus experienced the fullness of humanity. That makes Him uniquely poised to understand our struggles and our weaknesses. He doesn’t know about people. He knows people.
My friends, God understands you and loves you. That is amazing.
Praise His holy name.
Be blessed
Hallelu Yah / Praise God
Kevin
