Issue 1271 – In Disguise – October 13, 2023

I was shuffling some photos this morning and found this image from this past summer. We had taken two of our granddaughters to a fun forest-related event at a regional park. There was a booth with all the props, where they took a photo of you as a forest figure.
Here I stand in all my gnomish handsomeness. It was a fun, silly moment.
It is the season for dress-up, with Halloween just over two weeks away. Some Christians will celebrate it, others will offer safe Christian-based alternatives, and some will celebrate Reformation Day or ignore it altogether. The subject of Halloween is a divisive issue within the faith and one of those areas that fall into the realm of individual liberty. If you are okay with it, celebrate it. If you are opposed, then don’t.
Paul has much to say about individual liberty and not judging in Romans 14. It’s worth a read.
With that said, my main thought for this morning was along the lines of costumes. We wear a mask or a costume not just at Halloween or on special occasions. Most of us have some form of camouflage or protective outfit that we always wear.
We are very selective about who we will reveal our true selves to. That’s probably wisdom to some degree because we live in a broken, sin-filled world where hurts can come quickly and deeply.
I look forward to the time in glory when all our sinful baggage will be stripped away, and we will be shown to be all God has created us to be.
We are created in the image of God; every one of us is unique and precious. We are being shaped moment by moment into something even more precious, and there will be an unveiling.
For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. 1 Corinthians 13:12
…I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6
There will come a day when I will see you as God intended you to be, a rare and perfect treasure, and you will see me in the same way. We will see Him revealed in all of His glory. What a day that will be.
I look forward to seeing you as God designed and without all the debris of sin in my eyes. There is no more need for costumes and masks but treasure in the temple of God.
I can hardly wait to meet the complete and true you.
Be blessed
Hallelu Yah / Praise God
