Issue 1272 – Everchanging – October 14, 2023

This morning’s image was taken near where we used to live in Clearwater. The river valleys could be shrouded in cloud one moment and completely cloud-free at other times. Once the sun started to warm the air, the fog would quickly lift, only to return as things cooled down towards evening.
When our schedules permit, Kathy and I try to attend an Aquafit class five days a week (Monday-Friday). It’s good cardio fitness, and being in the water makes it easier on my arthritic knees.
The morning mist typically plays across the hills and mountains around us this time of year. The mist weaves in and out of the trees, sometimes high on the hills and others down low. At times, the cloud is so thick that it obscures the landscape behind it, but other times, it just gives things an ethereal look.
Whether it was the river valleys of Clearwater or the hills around Abbotsford, Kathy and I have always marvelled at the changing view. It is never the same from day to day, even hour to hour, or at times moment by moment.
The seasons change the view. The rising and setting of the sun and changes in the amount of daylight (or lack thereof) can impact what we see.
I know people who tell me they get bored of the scenery around them because it is “always the same.” I would suggest that it only seems that way because they never actually take the time to look and truly see.
God is a fantastic artist. He has not only created all the static beauty around us that we have come to see so often that we take it for granted; He also changes it constantly. We are provided with an ever-evolving, fantastic reminder of His majesty. Humanity is created in His image and is incredibly creative. Still, our best efforts cannot keep up with what God displays.
Ah, Lord God! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you. Jeremiah 32:17
The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. Psalm 19:1-2
When I see His hand at work, I am reminded of something Jesus said.
But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Matthew 6:31
The God who created our world and paints it with an everlasting tapestry is the same God who cares for us. That is a mind-blowing sentiment. He is power beyond comprehension, but He doesn’t remain aloof.
He knows us intimately and loves us individually. How marvellous is that?
Even more certain than the mountains that can be hidden by the fog is the God who loves us. We may see Him clearly or, at times, not at all, but He is never removed and never changes.
My friends, that truth is something to celebrate.
Let everything that has breath please the Lord.
Be blessed
Hallelu Yah / Praise God
