Issue 1333 – Reflecting – January 2, 2024

Good morning.
In the words of famous theologian John Lennon, “Another year over. A new one just begun.” So our annual tour around the sun commences.
Last year was a good one for us. There were many ups and downs, but God was faithful, and we saw Him at work in many ways.
It wasn’t an easy year. With my retinal detachment in the spring, I struggled with vision problems and not being able to drive for most of the year. The initial prognosis was that I would likely regain some of my vision in that eye. I am back to 20/20 vision (with my glasses) when all is said and done. The doctor was amazed, and I was praising God for a miracle.
I am thankful for Kathy, who had to put up with me during that period and as I struggled with some other health issues. I am not an easy patient at the best of times.
We had some blessed times as well. Kris and his family were out in the summer so the whole clan could gather for a while. That was a gift from God. and a highlight of the year.
Living in the same house as Kyle and his family provides daily blessings.
We belong to a fantastic community group, which meets weekly. We also attend a wonderful local assembly on Sundays where the gospel is proclaimed, and we can serve.
We started the year with another walk in Campbell Valley Regional Park yesterday. We walked the Little River Loop, rated an easy one-hour walk. It always takes us at least two because we stop and enjoy the wildlife.
We were blessed to see at least six wood ducks (5 drakes and one hen). There are always many mallards; yesterday was no exception, but we had never seen woodies there before. They were timid and just at the edge of my phone camera range so the image isn’t great. There were dogs to visit, plenty of different coloured squirrels and a plethora of birds.
We watched a DVD of Max Maclean doing the Gospel of Mark in the evening. It is a riveting rendition of a powerful gospel. (also available online) I highly recommend it.
I’m not a prophet, so I have no idea what the coming year will bring. I can guess there will be times of trial and victory, joy and mourning, and more of the things that fall into every person’s life.
I do know something about the God who oversees it all. I don’t have to be a prophet to proclaim that his mercies will be new every morning.
The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23
That, my dear friends, is something to celebrate and hang fast to.
May the new year bring you a new awareness of and closeness to the Lord.
Be blessed
Hallelu Yah / Praise God
Kevin
