Issue 1139 – In a Fog – January 9, 2024

I set off for a fishing adventure in an unfamiliar area, but luckily, my friend was a pro there. We hit the road just before sunrise, cruising along gravel paths into the lush, forested hills until we parked in what felt like the middle of nowhere. My buddy assured me this was just the starting point for our little trek.
We journeyed on, with no clear path in sight, but those game trails helped us along. It was pretty smooth sailing, with just a bit of hopping over deadfall. As the sun peeked over the horizon, we reached a high point, and oh, the sight! A stream below was blanketed in a thick morning fog. Couldn’t see much in between, but it was breathtaking.
We took a breather, and I was puzzled why we didn’t head straight to the stream. Turns out, that wasn’t our final stop. We had more navigating to do – down the hill, across the stream, up the other side, and then down again. Apparently, that’s where the “really good” fishing was.
After a quick break and a sip of coffee, we kept moving. I think we caught some fish that day; my friend rarely came back empty-handed. But what stuck with me most was gazing at that fog, feeling so close yet far from our next hill.
Ever feel like life’s a bit foggy? The destination seems out of sight, the path unclear. It’s in those moments we wonder if we’re on the right track or if we’ll ever reach where we want to be.
Don’t let that fog get you down. Sometimes, the path isn’t crystal clear, but our guide knows the terrain like the back of his hand. He knows precisely how to get there and when to take a breather.
“For a people shall dwell in Zion, in Jerusalem; you shall weep no more. He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry. As soon as he hears it, he answers you. And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your Teacher will not hide himself anymore, but your eyes shall see your Teacher. And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left” Isaiah 30:19-21
That prophetic passage was written to the people of Israel in a dark and challenging time. Yet, it is also a precept that we can count on. He knows our very steps. He longs to be our guide. He will direct. The Lord is our great Shepherd, and a true shepherd will never lead his sheep astray. He will search out those who have wandered out on their own to bring them back.
Until next time, when you are facing the foggy moments, cry out for the Shepherd. He will guide you.
Be blessed
Hallelu Yah / Praise God
