Issue 1353 – Vision Problems – January 25, 2023

That night, there wasn’t a moon shining, so Genni, the wonder dog, and I decided to take a stroll around the lake in the dim light.
We enjoyed a quiet walk, and on the other side of the lake, I noticed a couple of folks under a streetlight walking their dogs. Further up, there was another person with their dog, passing by the lights of the fire hall.
It took me by surprise when I almost bumped into an elderly lady right in front of me. She was in dark clothes, walking in a shadowy area. Thankfully, Genni sensed her presence, preventing me from accidentally knocking her over.
I could observe things happening across the lake, but what I didn’t see was right in front of me.
In our faith journey as Christians, we often focus on the distant future. We look forward to the joy of being with the Master in Heaven, and that’s undoubtedly wonderful. However, when that becomes our sole focus, we miss out on the beauty of the every day with Jesus.
We’ve all heard the saying, “He’s so heavenly-minded that he’s no earthly good,” and maybe we’ve encountered people like that. While they have their salvation and anticipate heaven, they tend to overlook the beauty of day-to-day life.
Christianity is about more than just going to heaven; it’s about living each day empowered by Jesus. It involves being guided by the Holy Spirit and living lives that attract those who are hurting.
Our faith is designed to be a day-to-day relationship with the living God, not something distant in the future.
There are many people out there struggling with life today who don’t care much about what happens after they die. They need to see a way to cope with life moment by moment; thoughts about death can come later. These people need Christ, too.
God doesn’t instantly take us home after we convert. This suggests that He has a purpose for leaving us here.
We’re here to love others, not just yearn for the afterlife.
We’re here to shine His light in a dark and hurting world.
As Jesus says in Matthew 5:13-16 says, “You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so thatthey may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
So, where are you looking? Are you only gazing up to heaven and missing out on what God has called you to do here?
Until next time, may your vision allow you to anticipate the glory to come while meeting the needs of the present.
Be blessed
Hallelu Yah / Praise God
