Issue 1382 – Grumbling – February 28, 2024
As I opened my eyes this morning, I was greeted by a striking contrast- a heavy cloud cover looming above and a delicate skiff of snow blanketing the ground. The rain expected later today will likely wash away this fleeting winter scene, but it certainly wasn’t a dramatic start to the day. The forecast is for rain to persist for the next week or more.

It’s hardly a surprise, considering it’s late February, and I’m in the lower mainland. However, what caught my attention was the severity of the situation further inland. Three of the highways leading into the interior are under a heavy snowfall warning, potentially accumulating a staggering 40 cm of snow over the next 24 hours.
It brightened my day to remember that things could be worse. I wasn’t feeling good about those dealing with the snow; it is just good to be reminded of how blessed we truly are. There are certainly tradeoffs no matter where you live.
I have to confess that sometimes I forget to be grateful. Even in the most difficult of circumstances, the average Canadian is better off in most ways than the majority of people in the world.
Christians are more blessed than non-believers, regardless of situation and circumstance. The world can take our possessions, our status, our health, our friends and family, and even our lives if God allows it, but it can never take away our salvation.
We are sealed with the Holy Spirit and held firmly in that Father’s hand because of what Jesus did. That truth gives us reason for deep gratitude no matter what we face.
See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appearswe shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. 1 John 3:1-2
Even as I write, I can see the snow cover is beginning to melt and wash away.
Forgive me, Lord, when I grumble about the inconsequential things of life. Teach me to have a grateful heart that praises you boldly despite my earthly circumstances.
I don’t know what you are facing today. It might be as minor as a bit of snow or as traumatic as losing a loved one. If you are His, he will walk through it with you.
May you have the strength today to give Him the glory due to His name.
Be blessed
Hallelu Yah / Praise God
