Issue 1396 – Colours – March 15, 2024

I had a poor night’s sleep last night and am brain-fogged, so I dug into the archives and pulled out an issue from March 2003/2004. In January, it will be the 25th anniversary of the first issue of Gleanings.
Genni, the wonder dog, and I strolled around the lake the other evening just as the sun was setting. The sky was a mix of clouds and clear and the sunset was beautiful.
I marvelled at the variety of colours in the sky as the sun was setting. The clouds were grey—well, not really. They were black, grey, midnight mist, sunrise mist, smoke, ash, white, off-white, ice, concrete, silver, platinum, and more. They were also gold, blue, pink, orange, red, yellow, and a plethora of other shades I can’t describe.
The sky was blue, red, orange and yellow. No, that’s not accurate. It was royal blue, aquamarine, teal, ice blue, robin’s egg blue, violet, purple, pink, fuchsia, orange, peach, yellow, sunset yellow, gold, bronze, brass and more shades than a paint store has colour chips.
I can’t describe it; a photo couldn’t capture it. It changed from moment to moment depending on where I was looking, the way the clouds moved, and the angle of the sun. It truly was beautiful beyond description, too marvellous for words.
If I wrote all day, used a thesaurus, went to a paint store and “borrowed” the names for all their paint shades, I couldn’t do justice to one everyday little sunset. I couldn’t even tell you what colour the sky was. I couldn’t begin to describe the shapes of the clouds or what the changing sunset did to the colour of the water on the lake as I walked along.
How much more would words fail me if I tried to describe what God looks like or all He has done? How could I convey my gratitude for His death on the cross? How could I describe the feeling of having the Holy Spirit dwell in me or knowing Him has changed my life? How could I tell the freedom of being forgiven of my sins?
The sunset I saw was a tiny sliver of a sunset over one of the billions of planets in the universe that He spoke into existence. How much bigger and more wonderful is He? All the books ever written, all the words ever spoken in every tongue that ever was, couldn’t even put a dent in describing Him and His wonders.
It’s no wonder Moses and the Israelites sang about Him,
“Who is like you, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders? Exodus 15:11
How would the priests who worked in the temple describe His glory when His presence forced them to withdraw?
And when the priests came out of the Holy Place, a cloud filled the house of the Lord, so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the house of the Lord. 1 Kings 8:10-11
The heavens have been trying non-stop since the beginning of time and still haven’t finished.
The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.Day to day pours out speech, and night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words, whose voice is not heard.Their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun, which comes out like a bridegroom leaving his chamber, and, like a strong man, runs its course with joy. Psalm 19:1-5
I’ll have to say he is God and leave it at that. Everything else pales in comparison.
Until next time, may you be filled with an overwhelming sense of awe, reverence and joy as you contemplate who He is and what He has done for you
Be blessed
Hallelu Yah / Praise God

Gleanings From The Word
Experience an extraordinary God in ordinary life.
Soli Deo Gloria (For the glory of God alone)
Never let the enemy tell you that you are worthless or insignificant. Your value in God’s eyes is so great that it was worth dying for. You are a blessing to the world. You are so precious to God that his plan for heaven will not be complete without you.
