Issue 1443 – Cracked – May 10, 2024

cracked window pane

He didn’t think it through beforehand. He was  practicing his golf on the front lawn of his house (and no, it wasn’t me, for a change). He chipped a few with no problem, but the inevitable eventually happened. He smacked one, and it flew right into the big glass window next to the front door.

The cracked window showed the round point of impact. From the center, it expanded out in ever-widening fractures until it reached the window frame.

Something similar happens when we have unresolved sin, guilt, and anger in our lives. It often starts as a small point of impact, but soon fractures, and the longer we leave it unresolved, the bigger the fractures become.

Our self-esteem fractures. We feel distanced from God. The consequences grow bigger and bigger. The lies grow unmanageable as we forget what we told to who and when. Our lives grow increasingly fractured.

I once heard a doctor say that, in his opinion, two of the biggest causes of mental illness were unresolved guilt and repressed anger. Both generally start small and then fracture until they have destroyed the person. This doctor went on to say that if people dealt with those issues early, more than half the patients in psychiatric hospitals wouldn’t be there.

We all know people who have been deeply scarred by bitterness from one of these two causes and that bitterness colours everything in their lives. Maybe you’re one of them. I can’t begin to imagine how many lives have been fractured and destroyed by these roots. We have a choice in dealing with the roots, and there is a way to remove them..

We can take them to Jesus.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:19

Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus,  by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.  Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:19-23

Until next time, run to the one who can mend broken hearts, forgive sins, wash away your guilt, and take away your anger and bitterness.

Trust Jesus.

Be blessed

Gleanings From The Word

Experience an extraordinary God in ordinary life.

Soli Deo Gloria (For the glory of God alone)

Never let the enemy tell you that you are worthless or insignificant. Your value in God’s eyes is so great that it was worth dying for. You are a blessing to the world. You are so precious to God that his plan for heaven will not be complete without you.
