Issue 1463 – Unchanging – June 1, 2024

It’s the first of June already. The year is flying by.
Yesterday, Kathy and I took a spontaneous road trip. We packed a picnic lunch and explored a bit of Manning Provincial Park before heading on to Princeton, BC. It’s about three hours of driving time each way. I think it’s been about 40 years since we last drove that stretch of road.
The scenery was spectacular, especially the view from atop the Cascade outlook. It offers a nearly 360° view of the valley and mountain range to the south. This links to a quick video I shot of the view
On the way back, we stopped to see the site of the Hope Slide. In 1965, the face of the Johnson range was changed when two earthquakes triggered a massive slide (estimated 47 million cubic tons of rock and mud) that buried a lake and killed four people who had been stopped on the highway because of an earlier snow slide. Some sources say it was the second-largest rockslide ever recorded in Canada.
Standing at the foot of the slide, I couldn’t truly comprehend the magnitude of it all. It made me ponder the fragility of this world. A photo cannot even begin to understand the amount of destruction.
We live in a world that can very quickly and literally change beyond recognition in many ways. A mountain falls down, a volcano erupts, a tsunami hits the coast, a forest fire or flood wipes out a community, or a hurricane or tornado comes barreling at you. That doesn’t even begin to consider the manmade problems or the smaller tragedies that impact individuals or small groups.
If a rock-solid mountain can’t be depended on to remain standing unchanged, what can we rely on?
We can depend on God. He is the creator and sustainer of all things. He alone is unchanging.
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:8
For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed. Malachi 3:6
Of old you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you will remain; they will all wear out like a garment. You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away, but you are the same, and your years have no end. Psalm 102:25-27
The world may be falling down around us (both literally and figuratively), but believers are safe in the arms of an all-powerful, eternal, unchanging, loving God.
When life threatens to overwhelm us, remember who holds us.
Trust God and praise His name.
Be blessed
Hallelu Yah / Praise God

Gleanings From The Word
Experience an extraordinary God in ordinary life.
Soli Deo Gloria (For the glory of God alone)
Never let the enemy tell you that you are worthless or insignificant. Your value in God’s eyes is so great that it was worth dying for. You are a blessing to the world. You are so precious to God that his plan for heaven will not be complete without you.
