Issue 1500 – Time Travel – July 16, 2024

This morning is issue 1500 in the current run of Gleanings. Added to the 4500-issue run of the first series of Gleanings, that means 6,000 times I have had something to share (or not, depending on your perspective).
We were blessed to spend yesterday afternoon and evening with some dear friends. As a bonus, a couple we know well from “the cowboy church” days visited them at the same time, so we got extra visiting in.
We caught up on each other’s lives as if it had only been days rather than years since we had last seen each other. We talked of
the things of God and the ways we had seen Him at work in our lives and the lives of others. We pondered the patience and mercy of God and talked about what heaven will be like.
After a delicious supper, we went for a stroll at a local coulee and came back in for more visiting. The musical instruments came out (not Kathy or I), and we enjoyed a mini jam of hymns and gospel songs for a couple of hours.
It was then I realized that time travel is possible.
I closed my eyes, listened, and was transported back into a past I had never experienced. I have often heard stories of the “old days” when people gathered in their homes for pickin’ and singin’. I didn’t grow up in that environment, so it was a treat.
At the same time, I was transported forward in time to get a taste of what glory will be like as people praise the Lord.
God is the same past, present, and future. As I get older, I think about what eternity with Him will be like. I know my best thoughts and imaginings will pale in comparison to reality.
The words of the Apostle Paul resonated with me.
When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. 1 Corinthians 13:11-12
Oh, to see and know Him more fully. What a joy that will be.
Gathering with my brothers and sisters in Christ from every era, tribe, language, and culture will be too marvelous for words.
As a Christian, my citizenship is already in glory with the Lord. Someday soon, I will have my permanent resident status with Him in my forever home.
I can hardly wait. What about you?
Be blessed
Hallelu Yah / Praise God
Kevin
Gleanings From The Word
Experience an extraordinary God in ordinary life.
Soli Deo Gloria (For the glory of God alone)
Never let the enemy tell you that you are worthless or insignificant. Your value in God’s eyes is so great that it was worth dying for. You are a blessing to the world. You are so precious to God that his plan for heaven will not be complete without you.
