Issue 669 – Hide and Seek -February 28, 2022

Gleanings reader Bob L. sent this great shot of a snowshoe rabbit (North American varying hare) sitting in this bird feeder/bath. Thanks, Bob.
If you have photos that you have taken which might have a “Gleanings” in them, please send them to me. Like the photos I take myself, I can’t guarantee if or when I will use them, but sometimes they fit perfectly. Thanks.
Snowshoes
Even though it is sitting still, the rabbit is far from hidden. In this case, it reminds me of a small child closing their eyes and saying, “You can’t see me.”
How often do people hide from God in the same way?
It started immediately after the fall.
And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. Genesis 3:8
If God can’t see us, we are not responsible. Right? That’s, at best, a foolish argument. Firstly, we are always accountable for our actions, even if they never appear to come to light. Secondly, God sees everything.
David wrote, “O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.” (Psalm 139:1-4)
In Proverbs, we read,
The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good. Proverbs 15:3
The theme of God knowing everything continues in Job.
Will any teach God knowledge, seeing that he judges those who are on high? Job 21:22
The Lord knows every past action. He knows every future action. Nothing is hidden from His sight.
Some would find that to be intimidating, as indeed they should. All sin will be punished as there will be a final judgement. All sin will be brought to light, and all excuses will be useless.
Yet, God’s knowledge of all things can also bring comfort. Jesus knew all, yet still condescended to die in my place.
What a horror it would be to walk with Christ, only to find out on the day of judgment that some sin had slipped past Him and wasn’t atoned for.
If the Lord were not aware of all of our sin, it would mean two things. Firstly Christ would have died in vain, and our salvation was not secure. Secondly, it would mean that God is not God after all. If God is not omniscient (all-knowing), then He is, by definition, not God.
There isn’t any point in hiding from God. We are only deluding ourselves when we attempt to do so.
He knows already, so run to the cross in humble repentance and faith and be set free. It is time to quit playing hide and seek with God because He has known where you are all along.
For those who are believers, there is the freedom to be found in confessing our sin to Him. When we attempt to hide it, we impair our relationship with Him because we cannot be honest.
Walk in freedom with Christ today. Celebrate the truth that He knows all and sees all. Rejoice that He loves us despite our sin and sets people free by faith.
Hallelu Yah (Praise God)
Be blessed.
Kevin.
