Issue 1527 A Blessing August 17, 2024
Last night, Kathy and I were blessed to watch and listen to an intimate outdoor concert with about 3,000 other people. Small children to very seniors gathered in a field at the park to enjoy an annual event.
Scattered throughout the crowd were people we knew from the church and elsewhere. All over the venue, you could see friendships being born or renewed.
Local resident Dr. Calvin Dyck, a symphony conductor and musician, organizes a free event every summer. Symphony in the Park brings together an eclectic collection of musicians, singers, and other performers and treats our community to a two-hour outdoor concert.
As always, last night was delightful. There was a selection of music in various genres, from classic to contemporary. There was something to tickle most palates.
What a delight to see so many different people enjoying an array of exquisitely performed symphonic music. It was virtuosic.
There is no charge for the performance, although a free-will offering was taken to help with the $75,000 cost of putting the event on. It’s simply an event put on to bless the community.
Now, not all of us have the gifts to enable us to bless the community with an event like that. Still all of us can bless the people we interact with.
A simple acknowledgment of another person, a smile, or a simple act of kindness can make life more bearable for someone else.
Christians ought to be in the blessing business. Of all people, we have the most reason to be joyful, generous, merciful, and compassionate.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. James 1:18
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. James 1:22
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. James 1:27
Let each of us show our faith by blessing others and sharing the good gifts He has given us.
Be blessed
Hallelu Yah / Praise God
Kevin
Gleanings From The Word
Experience an extraordinary God in ordinary life.
Soli Deo Gloria (For the glory of God alone)
Never let the enemy tell you that you are worthless or insignificant. Your value in God’s eyes is so great that it was worth dying for. You are a blessing to the world. You are so precious to God that his plan for heaven will not be complete without you.
