Issue 1602 – The Sentinel – November 15, 2024

I snapped this shot of a lone tree at sunset one evening some years ago. The tree made me think of a lone sentinel at his post.
Back in the days when Kathy and I served in the Canadian Armed Forces, we were posted to the air base in Comox, BC. Periodically, we would have “exercises,” simulations of military events such as war.
I remember one exercise where I was posted, by myself, out at the end of the runways as a sentinel. As the games progressed, the umpires at HQ declared me dead and carried on with the exercise. That was a typical move; every military exercise has simulated casualties.
The problem was that no one told me. I was out there alone, with no transport or radio. My role was promptly forgotten until the exercise ended, and I had yet to return to my regular post. At that point, the question “Where’s Kevin?’ was raised, and they began to look for me.
They found me at the end of the runway, waiting for my relief, clueless that everything had wound down some hours before. I could only leave after they arrived, as the sentry doesn’t desert his post.
Christians have a sentinel. This watchman never needs to be relieved, is always vigilant, and misses nothing. The Holy Spirit watches over us and seals us for our ultimate destiny.
My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. Psalm 121:2-4
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage! The Lord looks down from heaven; he sees all the children of man; from where he sits enthroned he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth, he who fashions the hearts of them all and observes all their deeds. Psalm 33:12-15
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
Praise God that He loves us enough to keep watch.
Hallelu Yah / Praise God
Kevin

Experience an extraordinary God in ordinary life.
Soli Deo Gloria (For the glory of God alone)
Never let the enemy tell you that you are worthless or insignificant. Your value in God’s eyes is so great that it was worth dying for. You are a blessing to the world. You are so precious to God that his plan for heaven will not be complete without you.
