Issue 671 – Same Days – March 2, 2022

Kathy and I went for a hike in the mountains. It was a few degrees above freezing, and a tiny bit of rain was falling. The sky was a mix of grey clouds, and there was just a hint of a breeze.
Despite the moisture and the cool air, we rejoiced in the spring weather. We would likely have been far less than impressed with identical weather if it had been September instead of May. In September, that same weather might have meant the onset of autumn and colder weather rather than the coming of summer and warmer weather.
It amazes me how two almost identical days might result in two opposite attitudes.
Life can be like that. Two people can see the same circumstances through different eyes. One person will rejoice while another person murmurs and complains. A person can be facing identical circumstances at other times in their life and see joy or sorrow.
Like the weather, there are often circumstances in our life over which we have no control. We can, however control our attitude towards them.
At times our circumstances are the consequences of our sin or the sin of others. Sometimes they are the result of attacks by the enemy. Sometimes our circumstances are simply the result of living in a fallen world. There are times when God sets our circumstances as a time of pruning or a season of blessed rest.
Being a Christian won’t guarantee you an easy life. Christians face struggles along with the rest of the world. The difference is that you have the power of Jesus Christ to carry you through whatever you face.
Whatever the cause and circumstance, we can remember who is in control and rejoice.
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. Romans 8:28-30
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:8
We might not like what we are going through, but when we remember His promises and His love for us, we can adjust our attitudes to something more positive.
The Apostle Paul understood this profound truth,
Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me. Philippians 4:11-13
Until next time, may your attitude represent the Lordship of Jesus in your life.
Hallelu Yah (Praise God)
Be blessed.
Kevin.
