Issue 1672 – Snarling Dogs – February 14, 2025

I’ve been debating writing on a topic for some weeks now and decided that today is the day to tackle it. It fits in the two most recent Gleanings about what Christians sound/act like.
Please forgive me if it comes across as an exasperated rant. The election season is just over south of us and gearing up here in Canada. Political topics are being discussed everywhere, including the media and social media.
It’s good to be informed on political issues. It’s OK to discuss them.
That’s not what I see. From all ends of the political spectrum in both nations, the discussions are hate-filled rants and personal attacks. Everyone seems out to demonize someone else.
It sounds like the frenzied attack of a pack of ravenous dogs.
Both sides are proclaiming it’s the end of the world.
Now, I will be the first to admit there are plenty of issues on both sides of the border, and both nations have slid downwards for a long time. Things may change, but it isn’t the end of the world.
Christians are not immune to this form of thinking and speech. Some of the most bitter, vitriolic words flow from Christian lips.
My friends, we should not be known as haters. Even in extreme disagreement, we should seek peaceful understanding rather than sounding like a rabid mob.
It betrays a foundational lack of trust in God. God is sovereign over the affairs of humankind. It is by his decree that nations and empires rise and fall.
For kingship belongs to the Lord, and he rules over the nations. Psalm 22:28
He makes nations great, and he destroys them; he enlarges nations, and leads them away. Job 12:23
God reigns over the nations; God sits on his holy throne. Psalm 47:8
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Romans 1:31
Our job is to serve the Lord and be His ambassadors in the face of turbulent times. We need to be peacemakers and not a riotous mob.
There is a hurting world out there that needs the hope of Christ. Let us use these uncertain days to grow in the Lord’s love and the gospel’s truth.
Lord, forgive us as we fall into the trap of demeaning those who disagree with us and for not trusting you.
Be blessed
Hallelu Yah / Praise God

Gleanings From The Word
Experience an extraordinary God in ordinary life.
Soli Deo Gloria (For the glory of God alone)
Never let the enemy tell you that you are worthless or insignificant. Your value in God’s eyes is so great that it was worth dying for. You are a blessing to the world. You are so precious to God that his plan for heaven will not be complete without you.
