Issue 693 – Prehistoric – March 24, 2022

Yesterday, Kathy and I took a short hike to Devon Falls. Devon is a pretty falls located on a trail within Abbotsford. There are houses within 100 yards, but you would never know.
The falls drop over bedrock and sandstone into a canyon of cracked bedrock filled with ferns and other high moisture-loving vegetation. Mosses and ferns of differing kinds cover the trees.
The view looks and feels like a set from a movie about lost worlds and dinosaurs. There is a decidedly prehistoric feel to it all. You almost expect to see dinosaurs walk onto the scene.
Enjoying the falls and their prehistoric feel got me thinking about the Garden of Eden. What was it like?
It was certainly more beautiful and safer than anyplace we can imagine.
If a dinosaur had popped on the scene in the garden, there was no worry about being eaten because death had not yet come.
When God finished His creation on the sixth day, He was pleased.
And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
Genesis 1:31
It was unlike any place we will experience in this lifetime. I have been blessed to travel to four continents and see a wide range of land and sea, wildlife and vegetation. Taking the best of it all doesn’t come close to what Eden would have been like.
Yet, believers will get to experience something as good as or better than Eden.
The final two chapters of John’s Revelation of Jesus the Christ (or simply Revelation, as it is more commonly called) give us great pictures of it. I will post a few snippets, but I suggest you take the time to read both chapters fully.
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:1-4
And I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. By its light will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it, and its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there. They will bring into it the glory and the honour of the nations. But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life. Revelation 21:22-27
Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever. Revelation 22:1-5
The new heaven and earth will be everything Eden was and more. We will have all the beauty and majesty of creation before the fall and no sin to cloud our eyes. We will be in the very presence of our Lord.
While I wait, I can enjoy the beauty of the world around me and anticipate that the things to come will be even better. That’s good news indeed.
Hallelu Yah (Praise God)
Be blessed.
Kevin.
