Issue 737 – Hint of a View – May 7, 2022

I took this shot a few days ago at Cascade Falls Regional Park in Mission. You are looking at a creek bed some thirty feet distant through a hole in the roots of an old-growth cedar.
With the bright sunlight, you could see through the whole into what looked like white light from thirty or forty feet away. My eyes were instantly drawn to the light.
Looking through the hole, you can see a creek bed beyond but not see the creek. The view holds great promise of what is not far away.
The image struck me as being an excellent metaphor for our faith walk. As we are drawn to the light, we sense what lies ahead but can’t quite see it yet.
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1
For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.
1 Corinthians 3:12
Despite being in a fallen state and viewed through sin-filled eyes, this world has incredible beauty. It has moments of great joy amongst the times of trouble and pain. How much more so will glory be with the sin gone and our eyes glorified? What beauty will we behold, and what joy will we experience?
Imagine finally seeing Jesus face to face. What will he look like and sound like? How do you express gratitude to someone who endured so much in our place? I can only imagine how much more I will want to worship Him when I see Him face to face.
Will I want to ask the Lord all the questions that run through my mind as I read the Scriptures? Or will that not matter anymore? Will all be revealed at once, or will there be a season of learning? What new questions will I have? Certainly, we won’t know everything, as we will be fully Christ-like in Character, but we will never be God.
The saints who have gone on before me, the heroes of the faith, will be there. Not just the big names, although I am looking forward to meeting them. The little grandmothers who lived quiet lives of faith and prayed nonstop. The people who prayed for their children, grandchildren and on down the line long before they were ever born. The unknown person who gave their life in the service of our King having received no earthly reward. Oh, how marvellous it will be.
I imagine I will be surprised at some of the people who won’t be there. Our Lord is perfect, just and merciful, and He knows a fake. Many will come and be told, “Get away. I never knew you.”
I wonder if I will be able to use my interests to glorify God. Over the years, I have dabbled in many creative pursuits that I just haven’t had time to become proficient with them. Will I perfect those skills to His glory? The Lord has gifted each of us differently and given us different personalities. How will that all come together in glory?
So many questions based on the small hints of what I see and what the Bible declares. Oh, how I long to see and know.
Yet, I confess to a conundrum. I want to go and see the Lord I love, but I am loathe to leave this world I know. I can relate to Paul when he said, “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21
The Lord’s timing is perfect, and I will be ready to go when He calls. Until then, I await with bated breath the wonders that lie ahead. I look forward to seeing you there.
