Issue 788 – Stuck – June 17, 2022

I have relatively short legs for my body height. Many people have the same sleeve and inseam size, but my legs are three inches shorter.
That isn’t an issue, except it puts my belt loops at the same height as kitchen counter drawer pulls and many door handles. Often if I turn in the kitchen, my belt catches the pull, opens the drawer and leaves me stuck. It’s a mild but frustrating inconvenience that happens at least once most days.
I remember one time I was walking out of our home, and the handle of the door caught one of the belt loops on my pants and the set of keys attached to it. They instantly tied a knot on the handle, and I was stuck. I could not move forwards. I could not move backwards. I could not use my hands to free myself because they were both full. All I could do was call Kathy to free me from my rather silly and embarrassing predicament.
That is the way life is sometimes. We get to a place where we are helpless. There is nothing we can do on our own. Fortunately, we have to privilege of being able to call out to God for help. He is never stuck. There is nothing outside the reach of His mighty hands. In fact, there are never any better hands to be in than God’s.
And Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the Lord, before the new court, and said, “O Lord, God of our fathers, are you not God in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. In your hand are power and might, so that none is able to withstand you. Did you not, our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham your friend? And they have lived in it and have built for you in it a sanctuary for your name, saying, ‘If disaster comes upon us, the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we will stand before this house and before you—for your name is in this house—and cry out to you in our affliction, and you will hear and save. 2 Chronicles 20:5-9
I lift up my eyes to the hills.
From where does my help come?
My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, he who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is your keeper;
the Lord is your shade on your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all evil;
he will keep your life.
The Lord will keep
your going out and your coming in
from this time forth and forevermore. Psalm 121
He is the God who can rescue us in the midst of our calamities. He is also the God who created us to be in fellowship with Him. He wants to hear from us, but He also wants to speak to us.
He may not change our circumstances, but He will strengthen us and walk us through them.
We are called to cry out to the Lord in prayer but also to converse with Him daily. Our time with God is too often something like this:
God, I want this
God, I need that
God, hurry it up
If you want me back
That kind of prayer misses the boat entirely. Yes, our Father will rescue us when we get stuck, but we must also come with a humble and thankful heart. After all, He is a God deserving of worship and not some cosmic butler at our beck and call.
Until next time, feel free to call on Him when only He can help, but be sure to spend time with Him daily. Stop by and say hello to God and take the time to listen. You might be amazed at what He wants to tell you.
Hallelu Yah (Praise God)
Be blessed
Kevin.
