Issue 840 – Waiting – August 31, 2022

Here is a recent photo of Kathy, taken in front of an old-growth tree stump we found at a local park. Some of these stumps have second stumps atop them where a tree had grown big enough to be harvested as well.
I am amazed at the size of some of these trees. They must have been giants.
What also amazes me is that, to my eyes, even though we have been married nearly 46 years, Kathy grows more beautiful all the time.
As I looked at that photo, my mind wandered back to our wedding day, nearly half a century ago. I was at the altar waiting for my bride. I was so nervous that I was shaking like a leaf. Not because I was second-guessing my choice, it was simply the weight of such a momentous moment in life.
Padre Cope (the officiating chaplain at our armed forces wedding) kept my eyes focused forward. My bride-to-be entered at just the perfect moment, and he allowed me to turn and look. There she was, a radiant beauty in white, and the image is forever burned into my brain.
There are those moments in life when reality far exceeds our wildest and most beautiful expectations. This was one.
There is another that I am looking forward to. Revelation chapters 21 and 22 describe the new Jerusalem, the new heavens and earth and the beauty therein. Here is a taste (I recommend you take a few minutes to read the chapters fully.)
And I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb. By its light will the nations walk, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it, and its gates will never be shut by day—and there will be no night there. They will bring into it the glory and the honor of the nations. Revelation 21:22-26
Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever. Revelation 22:1-5
That will be something more beautiful than I can imagine.
Even more than that, though, I look forward to the moment when I see my Lord Jesus Christ face-to-face, in all His glory.
Perhaps you skimmed over it …“They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.”
Face to face, friend to friend, master to servant, and coheirs together, we will see Him.
Jesus knew me and loved me from before the earth was created. He knew all my sin, rebellion and shortcomings, yet He died to make reconciliation with Him possible. He is love incarnate and perfection.
I can hardly wait to meet Him in person. How about you?
Hallelu Yah (Praise God)
Be blessed.
Kevin.
