Issue 849 – Faithful Servant – September 9, 2022

Yesterday we heard the tragic news that ‘Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom, Canada and Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith’ had passed away at the age of 96. It was reported that she passed away peacefully at Balmoral Castle.
As the longest-ever serving British monarch, she was my queen from before I was born. I was saddened to hear of her passing, and with her death, it seems to be the passing of an era.
Whatever your views on the monarchy’s role, it is difficult to argue that she was anything but faithful to her role. She stood uprightly for her subjects and her faith amid an ever-turbulent and changing world.
She staunchly and publicly proclaimed her Christian faith and well represented her title of “Defender of the Faith.”
Indeed, she was not perfect. As with any other leader, there were mistakes made, but all in all, she was faithful.
You and I may never be kings or queens (although we are children of the true King), but we could do well by following her example of faithfulness.
I have never seen faithfulness specifically articulated in any list of Christian virtues, but certainly, it belongs there. We are called to obedience and faithfulness.
I believe we long to hear the words of Christ.
‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ Matthew 25:21
In striving for that, we have an even better model than HRH Queen Elizabeth II. Our Lord is faithful in all things.
I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth, I will make your faithfulness known through all generations. I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself. Psalm 89:1-2
Our sin nature calls us to rebellion but born-again believers have the power of the Holy Spirit to transform us, and the Word of God to guide us. We have the example of Christ to follow. We have all the tools to guide us towards faithfulness in our Lord.
When we meet Him face to face, may we all be found faithful.
Be blessed
Hallelu Yah
Praise God
