Gold, silver and other shiny rocks always get my attention. I frequently look at the ground when walking to see the pretty stones. I have been like that my entire life.

There were several things Charlie never left home without. Charlie carried a roll of brass snare wire, a sharp pocketknife and a hunting knife in a sheath on his belt. In his pockets were a couple of bandannas, numerous boxes of waterproof matches, a small candle and a compass. He kept some fishing line, flies, and simple hooks in an old breath mint can.

This one was the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village (near Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and well worth a day if you are ever up that way during June-September).

Coffee shop talk and false churches.

Later this morning, I am meeting a friend at a coffee shop. It will be a treat as it has been more than a month since I could do that. Of late, my morning coffee time has tended to look more like the photo than a coffee shop.

Not everything is what it appears

The sand rose, or desert rose, is a wondrous thing to behold. It has a delicate beauty that is hard to imagine. There is no fragrance to the desert rose because while it may look like a flower, it is a mineral concretion. It may crumble into nothing at a touch.
