I wonder if that’s how we treat our faith. We go through the motions of drinking from the Living Water and look up as if to move into action. Then we repeat the process endlessly, never slaking our thirst or doing anything.

If to be human is to sin, and Jesus did not sin, it means he was not human. The path to our salvation has not happened yet. Only someone fully human could atone for our sin.

As we’ve aged and experienced our share of health and other issues, indeed, we can’t do everything we used to, and we are certainly slower. We might have more in common with the gnarled old tree than one in its prime. Yet, we are still called to serve, give, and love.
