Issue 1210 – In the Name of the King – August 1, 2023

The words “in the name of the King” can evoke different images in different people. What do you think of when you hear that phrase?
For some, it will bring to mind the 2007 movie of that name, starring Jason Statham, Ron Perlman and Ray Liotta. For others, it will make them think of King Charles III, formerly the Prince of Wales, the new titular head of the British Isles. From there, my thoughts go to HRH Queen Elizabeth II, the woman I considered my Queen until her recent passing. In other nations, it might invoke an image of their particular reigning monarch.
Although I cannot find that exact phrase in the Bible, it brings an essential biblical truth to mind. God Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, is King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who is not partial and takes no bribe. Deuteronomy 10:17
Give thanks to the Lord of lords, for his steadfast love endures forever; Psalm 136:3
The king answered and said to Daniel, “Truly, your God is God of gods and Lord of kings, and a revealer of mysteries, for you have been able to reveal this mystery.” Daniel 2:47
I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who in his testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, to keep the commandment unstained and free from reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which he will display at the proper time—he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen. 1 Timothy 6:13-16
On his robe and on his thigh, he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords. Revelation 19:16
All other kings, queens, presidents, prime ministers and leaders of any sort are subject to His rule. Many don’t live that truth, but for kings and queens, there will come a time of reckoning before God, just as there will be for ordinary people.
Suppose we were given a document from the hand of HRH King Charles II or some other king. In that case, I suspect we would treat it with reverence and pay attention to its contents. How much more so should we treat the Living Word of the Lord of Lords?
We have been given a proclamation from the King of Kings. In the Bible, God, the King of King and Lord of Lords, Sovereign Ruler, reveals Himself and His plans to us. He teaches us how we ought to live and relate to one another. The Lord tells us of the punishment for rebellion (death) and the rewards for trusting Him (eternal life). He calls us into His holy and everlasting service.
Your King calls you to serve Him and provides all you need. How will you respond?
Be Blessed
Hallelu Yah / Praise God
