Issue 798 – Call Home – July 7, 2022
As I sat meditating this morning before preparing my devotional, the truly radical nature of the God we worship struck me.
We don’t serve a distant God who is impersonal
and uncaring. We don’t worship in a God who has layer upon layer of rituals and levels to pass through before we can get to Him.
We are loved by a God directly involved in our daily lives. We are redeemed by a Lord who cares about what happens to us every moment of every day. We are watched over by a King who has given us direct access to Him through His Son.
From the first days of creation, God walked with people in the Garden of Eden and wanted to enjoy their company. He still wants to be in direct contact with us and has given us prayer as an instrument.
Being able to pray and talk directly with God is like having a toll-free phone card that goes directly to head office, or better yet, directly home. Call 1-800-myjesus.
We don’t need fancy theological language to pray. Good theology is essential, but it isn’t a prerequisite to praying.
In prayer can honestly say what’s on my heart. We can share whatever is on our hearts and minds, complete with all the emotions that go along with it, and He understands. We don’t have to have it all together to talk to Him. He knows we are sinners, and He still sent His Son to die in our place.
We don’t have to be inside a particular building to pray. We can pray at home, outdoors, in our car or where ever we are, just as we would talk to our best friend.
We are called to pray about our joys and our needs, in short, about everything.
pray without ceasing 1 Thessalonians 5:17
Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. James 5:13-16
Jesus prayed regularly.
But he would withdraw to desolate places and pray. Luke 5:16
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. John 14:16-17
Perhaps you never thought of this verse as being prayer. Yet it is the ultimate in intercessory prayer; in it, Jesus petitions the Father directly on our behalf.
When was the last time you called your heavenly home? Perhaps it’s time to do that right now; God is waiting on the other end of the line, just waiting for your call.
You don’t need a special occasion or excuse to pray. Just do it because He loves to hear from you.
No matter who you are or what you have done. It doesn’t matter what your circumstances; I promise He’d love to hear from you.
Until next time, may you remember to share your daily life with Him through prayer.
Hallelu Yah (Praise God)
Be blessed
Kevin.
