Issue 1403 – The Weaver’s Art – March 23, 2024

The reeds were meticulously woven in and out around the center. At times, the weaver’s hand moved so quickly that it was almost impossible to follow.
Soon, in front of my eyes, a basket began to take shape out of what had been a pile of reeds only a few moments ago. Each weave contributed to the basket’s shape and strength.
Each basket was uniquely woven by hand. Some were small and utilitarian. Others were large and ornate, made more for their beauty than for practical use. Some were woven of fine grasses and others of coarse green branches.
The weaver had a design in his mind’s eye before the shape became apparent to me. He knew the placement and shaping of each reed even before he began to weave.
Growing up, we joked about attending college and taking mindless courses like Basket Weaving 101. Courses that would be good for easy credit.
In truth, the weaver’s art is anything but simple.
Virtually anyone can learn to make some basket, but a true weaver is an artist.
I wonder how often we’re guilty of thinking the same way about God as we used to with basket weaving courses. We know the best thing to do and how things should be run. At least, we seem to think we do.
We tell God we want His will to be done, then dictate our will in our prayer life. I wonder sometimes why we don’t hear God speaking to us the words He said to Job.
Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind and said, “Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?Dress for actionlike a man; I will question you, and you make it known to me. Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding.Who determined its measurements—surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it?On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone, when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
“Or who shut in the sea with doors when it burst out from the womb, when I made clouds its garment and thick darkness its swaddling band, and prescribed limits for it and set bars and doors, and said, ‘Thus far shall you come, and no farther, and here shall your proud waves be stayed’?
“Have you commanded the morning since your days began, and caused the dawn to know its place, that it might take hold of the skirts of the earth, and the wicked be shaken out of it?It is changed like clay under the seal, and its features stand out like a garment. From the wicked their light is withheld, and their uplifted arm is broken. “Have you entered into the springs of the sea, or walked in the recesses of the deep?Have the gates of death been revealed to you, or have you seen the gates of deep darkness?
Have you comprehended the expanse of the earth? Declare, if you know all this. “Where is the way to the dwelling of light, and where is the place of darkness, that you may take it to its territory and that you may discern the paths to its home? You know, for you were born then, and the number of your days is great!
Job 38:1-21
How often have I thought I knew all the answers but didn’t even begin to understand the scope of the question? There are too many to count if I’m honest. I have asked for my will, not His. I am so thankful that He is patient.
We’re called to take all of our concerns to Him. We also need to learn to trust Him for the best answer to our situation.
Until next time, when you presume to take the place of the weaver and dictate your terms, remember His art is more challenging than it seems.
Be blessed

Experience an extraordinary God in ordinary life.
Soli Deo Gloria (For the glory of God alone)
Never let the enemy tell you that you are worthless or insignificant. Your value in God’s eyes is so great that it was worth dying for. You are a blessing to the world. You are so precious to God that his plan for heaven will not be complete without you.
