Issue 888 – Live Stream – October 20, 2022

I stood on the bridge crossing Pepin Brook (Aldergrove Regional Park) and enjoyed the view. Several flocks of small birds flew in and out of the nearby bushes. There were juncos, thrushes and a couple that I couldn’t identify.
The birds were feeding on some red berries and seemed to enjoy themselves. One of the juncos alighted on a slender piece of grass that bent under its weight. The bird barely had time to fly off before it hit the water. It was just a momentary happening but fun to watch.
I love those forms of simple amusements. I never grow weary of them.
There is another form of Livestream that can be problematic for me. I also love my various electronic devices and can get too wrapped up in them. They can be very addictive and time-wasting. I too often Livestream rather than enjoy a live stream.
Too often, we find ourselves doing something that, by its nature, is not bad but distracts us from better things. Even as believers, we can settle for superficial forms of Christianity rather than allowing ourselves to be drawn into deeper relationships with our Lord and other believers.
How often do we stand in the foyer before or after a service and chat about inconsequential things like the weather or the local sports team? Polite conversation is good, but deep, meaningful conversation has infinitely more value. Certainly, a small amount of small talk is necessary, but if we never go past that, there is an issue.
My dear friends, we are all parts of the same body of believers. If we cannot begin to be transparent with one another about our lives, how can we ever do that in a world of hurting non-believers?
For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. For the body does not consist of one member but of many. If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. If all were a single member, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, yet one body The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. 1 Corinthians 12:12-27
We will never function fully as a body or know the joys of deep rich fellowship is allow ourselves to settle for the lesser of the goods.
Take a risk and grow deeper with your fellow believers. Just as a live stream is better than Livestream, fellowship is far greater than polite social intercourse.
May your relationships with other believers grow ever deeper.
Praise His name.
Be blessed
