Issue 1189 – More? June 29, 2023

It’s been a little more than three months since the retina in my right eye spontaneously tore and detached. The surgeon told me it would take a year to fully heal. I will see him again tomorrow for a progress report.
I wore the pirate patch for several weeks because I found the confused vision challenging to deal with. Things have settled enough that I haven’t had to wear it since then.
Someone asked me recently how the healing was progressing. It’s a difficult question to answer. I have the full range of peripheral vision back but a definite decrease in vision in that eye. It’s difficult to say precisely how bad it is, but I typically say 20-30% as I don’tdon’t see half as well as I did before. That is an arbitrary figure because I don’t have a scale to measure against.
There may be some slight improvement, but I don’t expect much. I pray that the eye has stabilized enough for them to get a proper reading on my vision so I can get a new lens for my glasses. It won’t give me the sight I had before, but that will significantly help.
I told the person that asked what I have shared with you. I also said I was very grateful to God for the vision I did have. That night three months ago, it was quite possible that I would have become permanently blind in that eye within a day or so. If God had not arranged the timing and circumstances, I would not have seen the doctors that I did, or the surgery could have been unsuccessful, or complications could have set in.
I’mI’m grateful for what I have. It is a significant adjustment in terms of lifestyle. Kathy has been driving me everywhere. The doctor says I am legal to drive, but until I get my new lens, I don’tdon’t feel confident doing that.
The person who asked about my eye praised God and suggested I ask Him for more restoration. That brings me to a dilemma. There have been other adjustments, both large and small as well.
Do I continue to be thankful for what God has provided? Do I pursue Him for more? Of course, I would love to have full vision, and I know God can heal my eye totally if that is His will.
Yet somehow, asking for more seems to be almost ungrateful. How do we know when to stop asking? It’s a tricky question I don’t have an answer for. Perhaps you, my readers, may have some thoughts to share on the subject.
I have opted to be content where I am and trust that God will deliver more healing if it is His will.
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me. Philippians 4:11-13
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
If more healing comes, God deserves all the glory. He deserves all the glory for the fact that I have any sight in that eye at all.
I will put my trust in Him and His faithfulness.
Let everyone praise the Lord.
Be Blessed
Hallelu Yah / Praise God
