Issue 1238 – Do Over? – September 2, 2023

The Spiral of time
Colourful spiral symbolizing time travel

I gained a day yesterday… sort of. For whatever reason, I  thought yesterday was Saturday. I even ironed my clothes for Sunday. At some point in the evening, the realization came to me that it was, in fact, Friday, so I got to live Saturday again.

Silly stuff, but it got me thinking. I often hear people wishing they were 18, or 20 or whatever age again. Would you travel back in time and take a do-over on part of life?

I wouldn’t. Don’t get me wrong, I haven’t lived anything like a perfect life. There have been wasted days or periods, embarrassing or even painful. I have done my share of poorly thought-out or even stupid things. There are definitely choices I would not make the same way again.

Yet, I know I was born into exactly the time and place God ordained me to be. He knew beforehand all of the mistakes I would make.

Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. Psalm 139:1

But when he who had set me apart before I was born, and who called me by his grace, Galatians 1:5

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. Psalm 139:13

Even with that foreknowledge, the LORD chose to send His Son to die for me and His Spirit to call me to Him.

I am right where He knew I would be, scars, warts and all. That doesn’t mean that He approved of all my choices. Many of them were sinful, hurting others as well as me.

My faith walk is different from yours in many ways. Yet, this same Lord has used our lives to shape us to minister to other people. There are people inside and outside the body of Christ that we can uniquely minister to because of where we have been.

The Lord reshapes broken and damaged people into something marvellous and beautiful beyond words. From that, He creates a living testimony to His glory for others to see and be drawn to.

I’m content to be 65 for now. Next year, I will be happy to be 66. No way do I want to be 18 or 30 or some other age again. I might not make the same mistakes I did then, but I would make different ones instead.

I thank God for bringing me through. I thank God for bringing each of you through as well. he is shaping us, refining us and making us into something incredible.

Praise God for what He has done, is doing, and will do in our lives.

Be blessed

Hallelu Yah / Praise God
