Issue 1358 – No More Mr. Nice Guy January 31, 2024
Can I take a moment and shatter a myth here? Most people see Jesus as a nice guy. Jesus wasn’t the way most people picture Him.
We must break through the misconceptions and show Jesus who He was, is and is to come.
Jesus wasn’t always “nice”. There is no doubt that He was always filled with love and compassion. He had a heart for everyone, including His enemies, but sometimes people wouldn’t have thought He was nice.
Being a Christian is not about being “nice” in the conventional sense; it’s about genuinely caring for others’ eternal well-being and offering them the hope found in Jesus Christ.
Jesus cleared the temple, not once, but twice. The money changers and others with stalls in the temple court didn’t think that was very nice.
Jesus openly confronted the false teachings of the Pharisees and the Sadducees. He had no patience for their hypocrisy or their “religion.” He sought heart changes, not external religious ceremonies and rituals. The religious establishment certainly didn’t think He was nice.
Jesus declared that there is no other way to salvation. For the Jews, that wasn’t a nice message because He proclaimed salvation for Gentiles and Jews alike.
In today’s politically correct world, Jesus’ message is not nice, because it’s closed and “intolerant.”
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
Scripture plainly tells us that:
This Jesusis the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:11-12
People are free to believe whatever faith they wish. You can’t force conversions. Yet, we must declare that while we respect those rights, there are consequences to believing them. The consequence of accepting any faith or “saviour” other than Jesus is eternal separation from God.
That’s not nice news. No one likes to think of another eternally separated from God. Yet, while some might not think it’s nice, it’s the best news in the world. It means that God loves us enough to give us a way out. He sent His Son for us.
In the world of political correctness, it might not be nice news, but it’s still the truth. Go out, love your neighbour with the love of Jesus Christ, but love them enough to tell them about Jesus.
Being “nice” and not wanting to offend by telling people the truth will “nice” them right into hell. How kind and loving is that?
Until next time, stand for the truth.
Be blessed
Hallelu Yah / Praise God
Kevin
