Issue 1466 – Sunny Morning – June 6, 2024

The photo is the view out my office window as I write today’s Gleanings.
After days of heavy rain and rather sketchy weather, I awoke to a bright, clear, blue sky this morning. The birds were singing their morning symphony, and it felt like all was right in the world.
On a morning like this, it’s easy for the heart to praise the Lord.
But what about those days when the world seems to be against us, when the storms of life threaten to drown our spirits? Do we still find it in our hearts to sing His praises? Perhaps, on some days, we manage to. Yet, if we’re honest with ourselves, it can be challenging to pause and give thanks to God on the tougher days.
Why is that? Did God change? Of course not! In the words of a classic song sung by the Gaithers, “For the God on the mountain is still God in the valley. When things go wrong, He’ll make them right. And the God of the good times is still in the bad times. The God of the day is still God in the night.”
We can tend to allow our feelings and circumstances to dictate who we think God is. However, our feelings are not the arbiter of truth. Feelings and circumstances change; God does not.
No one knew that better than the Apostle Paul. He suffered rejection, pain, torture, and prison, yet he understood the truth.
I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at length you have revived your concern for me. You were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity. Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me. Philippians 4:10-13
This is quite possibly one of the most misused passages of Scripture. Paul isn’t giving us a magical formula here. It doesn’t mean we can suddenly fly or sing well enough to lead worship. Paul understands that no matter what comes, God is still in control, and no matter what we face or how we feel, He will bring us through.
It’s why he could also pen the words,
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
You may be sailing on calm seas today, or the storms may threaten to overwhelm you. Whatever you are facing, God is God, and you can trust Him to carry you through.
Praise His name.
Be blessed
Hallelu Yah / Praise God

Gleanings From The Word
Experience an extraordinary God in ordinary life.
Soli Deo Gloria (For the glory of God alone)
Never let the enemy tell you that you are worthless or insignificant. Your value in God’s eyes is so great that it was worth dying for. You are a blessing to the world. You are so precious to God that his plan for heaven will not be complete without you.
